How Things are Going

Tonight was an awesome night. Kaius only woke up twice, and ate quickly and fell right back to sleep both times. There have been only a couple nights where he has wanted to stay up for hours and Josh happens to be amazing at putting babies to sleep, so he has stepped in a few times. He helped his Mom with the two youngest siblings Chris and Sarah. I normally dont think that bein all mushy gushy on blogs about your husband is that cool...i think that the people that post only about that are trying to compensate for what they dont have... and Josh and I decided that my blog wouldnt be the place I express my feelings, but that I'd express my feelings with him. But I've expressed it to him, so here I go. He has never once complained about having to get up at night to help me. I always have said, and still say that if the husband works and the wife stays home, generally she should wake up with the babies at night, because she can sleep in the day. But there was a day this week that Kaius would. not. sleep. Therefore I didn't sleep or eat all day. That night when Kai woke up at 1 am Josh got up and told me I needed to rest....i was so tired i couldn't even argue, i dont remember being awake 2 seconds longer. With that said, I really truly believe I have the best husband for me, and he does such a great job of taking care of his family.

Something funny I've been doing... Last night in the middle of the night Josh started to roll over. I grabbed his arm and said "HEY. Careful. The baby's in here." and He said "Oh, Ok" and finished rolling over. Then that day he called from work to check up on me and he was like "So you had the kid in bed with us last night, huh?" and I thought for a minute, and said "uuuh no he wasn't ever in the bed with us!" ha! But I totally remember saying that and truly trying to protect him. The first 4 nights home from the hospital, any time Josh would roll over in the middle of the night I would abruptly grab his arm and check the surroundings for the baby. You would think he sleeps with us often or something...he doesn't. I'm a weird-o.

mmm....no.

So even me, the girl that wanted to quit playing sports in high school because I thought that I would have to get a fuuulll physical to play, forgot all modesty during/after having the baby in the hospital. If I was feeding the baby and someone walked in I didn't cover up (there was one time where a very young boy came to draw my blood and I made an exception).
But this is the deal on Babysteals.com today:

And this is the description: Does your baby hate to be covered in a blanket or cover while nursing but you still want to feed publicly and be covered? Do you prefer to wear your own wardrobe instead of expensive nursing tops? BabyBond Couture is the answer! It offers privacy while breastfeeding, without isolating baby from the infinite opportunity to interact and communicate. Designed by a Mom/Speech-Language Pathologist, BabyBond Nursing covers allow mom to fully engage her baby while feeding publicly!

There is no way you can use this thing one time publicly without flashing SOMEONE your umm...flower. Even while the baby is eating...how do you cover up? It just doesn't make sense to me. I am all about feeding your baby wherever as long as nobody sees it.
Man I'm having the weirdest blog posts lately.

Is the Scale Lyin' ?

So my mom took this week off to take care of me (and my house). I weighed myself on tuesday, and I weighed the same as i did when I was 9 months pregnant (minus what the baby weighs...)
But on Wednesday I thought to myself "Wow...My stomach looks a lot smaller today..." but I thought it was just me. My mom showed up at my house and said "Wow Carly look at how small your stomach is. you should go weigh yourself."
And so I did. I was 5 lbs. less than the day before! And my swollen feet were gone.
Thursday the same thing happened, 5 more lbs. less than the day before.
And today...
The same. thing. happened.
5 lbs. less.
I have to say I never thought it would happen.
15 lbs. in 3 days?
Weird topic to blog about, but I wanted to shout off this news on top of a mountain. But I didnt have a mountain I had a computer.

My first time giving Kai a bath!

They say not to sponge bathe your baby every day because their skin will dry out, so I was finally able to give him a bath last night! It was fun :D
I am just more and more amazed at the cuteness we produced (or is it reproduced? whats the diff?)

Look at this tiny robe my sister Jana gave him! (borrowed him...in case she has mo' chillens)
Have you ever seen anything cuter? oh wait, I have:

This is the face I get to see about 7-10 times a day. Every time he drifts off to dreamland, he gives the hugest smiles. I think they are amazing. Most of the time he has dimples! Its hands down the cutest thing I have ever seen I dont even know what to do with myself. I keep the camera around at all times but the smile is only on his face for about three seconds at a time.

This one here I was in such a hurry to capture the smile I forgot to turn the flash off... but doesn't it look like he is just crackin' up?? ^_^

He is such a good baby. Always has to be eating or sleeping but what baby doesnt. I have tons of fun taking care of him each day and I cant wait til we can run and play together... Ok I CAN wait. Everyone says this stage flies by, and I am enjoying it!

Ignore the blimpiness...I'm workin on it kay?
and by workin' I mean breastfeeding and drinking lots to get rid of all the water retention from the surgery.
(I am still retaining water because of the c-section right? Otherwise it would all go away?)

Anyways.
Josh and I can't help but take a trillion pictures of Kaius. He is our favorite!! So if you get sick of it you can just run along....;D

Obsessed?

So I just realized within the last month or so...I am completely obsessed with ANYTHING watermelon.

Halls vitamin C drops...

Sonic Watermelon Cream Slush

Real Watermelon

Watermelon Car Freshener

Sour Patch Sour Watermelon Gummies

I even think watermelon on clothes is super cute!

Scentsy Watermelon Patch...contact Katie if you want to order some scentsy. Watermelon Patch is actually being discontinued so I bought myself a brick. Not sure if you can still get it you'll have to ask her!
-And Can I just say that Katie is AWESOME? Its 12:30 in the morning and she chats me on Facebook asking how I am. Well I told her I'm having severe abdominal muscle pain and she insisted on bringing me this awesome ice pack she has. What an awesome friend.

Watermelon Saltwater taffy

And I'm sorry I just couldnt help myself...how cute are these pictures?

I could totally see Kai doing this some day...

And if I ever have a baby girl I think her room will be watermelon themed.

*sigh*

It's 5 :30 am and I just had the most successful breastfeeding experience yet and I just feel so proud of my little man. I did it all by myself, usually I have to call a nurse in or wake Josh up to change positions but I was able to do it. So sorry I don't have any pics to put up yet, we really didn't expect to be in the hospital all week, so we thought uploading pics could wait til we got home. Josh is runnin home in the morning so I have a list of stuff for him to get, and the computer cord is one of 'em!
Yesterday they took out my catheter, IV, and I got to take the baby back to the nursery with Josh and then I [*sounds of heaven opening up*] SHOWERED!!!
Caught a glimpse of my body in the mirror on the way in....had NO idea how swollen my legs/hips/tummy were. I'm a blimp. Josh knows how to make me feel better though. It will go away.
After the shower they took off the "dressing" or "huge bandage" over my staples. Thought that was gunna be scary but turns out, they dont put the sticky part of the bandage over the staples, just goes around! I was stressin all day and they kept telling me to shower but i didnt want them to rip out the staples on accident. What a relief.
later in the day Josh made me laugh (NOT on purpose, I just laugh a lot) and my meds were kind of wearing off...and I started crying cuz of the pain in my abdomen...which has the same affect as laughing. Josh knew what to do and got me to calm down and relax. My friend Sandy was visiting so she took care of Kai while I regrouped.
Just a few details of the birth...
I could feel everything, but not the pain. When moving me from the L&D bed to the Operating table, a nurse folded my arms and said "fold your arms hun." and my arms went splat to straight out to the sides. I was like "uuuh...I cant?" and she actually tried about three more times. Uh...hello...you just numbed like my whole body...do you REALLY think I'm trying to be difficult about this?
Right before they had Josh come in when they were done setting up, my doctor came and got in my face and said that she wanted me to know she really thinks I made the right decision and that she thinks everything will be fine. You may be thinking she wanted to do a c-section so she could get paid more, but no. She only gave us the facts and risks, and made us make the decision all on our own. Josh actually found it frustrating and wanted her to give us a recommendation.
Anyway, when surgery was starting they had Josh sit behind the curtain by me...and he actually asked if he could stand. "uuh no its better if you sit" said the anesthesiologist.
Which is smart because I'm sure they have people pass out all the time. But Josh said there was a reflection somewhere and watched the whole procedure. He said it was crazy! Baby was out in about 10 minutes, and it felt like he JUMPED out of there! Josh said he probably did cuz he came out kicking his legs. As soon as he was out he was crying. Josh and I had never heard anything more glorious. I started bawling on cue. Just thinking about the moment makes me cry again. They brought the baby over and showed him to us...he was so cute. and BIG. I thought he was over 10 lbs. Josh followed the guy with the baby (who also made a comment about how large he was) and watched them clean him up and weigh him. I kept yelling "Whats the weight???" and they just kept saying "We'll weigh him as soon as he is all clean!" and then I heard them shout "8 pounds 11 ounces!" I dont remember the hour after this point that well. Josh got some one on one time with Kaius while I slept it off for about an hour. Then I woke up and asked for assistance in holding my son. Wow...he looks more like Josh than I thought he would! Here is a pic I have of baby Josh

And Kai looks VERY similar to this. Same mouth and eyes. I would say his nose is a mixture of both me and Josh.
Well, before he was born I thought that I would send out this mass text to all my loved ones, friends and family, to have everyone come visit us here at the hospital. We truly love visitors but I haven't sent that text out just because we don't want huge crowds. If you want to come visit please give me a call or text on my cell. Love to hear from ya! I just don't want anyone offended thinking I don't want them to come. I do!
Thank you all for your support! We truly appreciate it. Can't believe I'm a mom and ACTUALLY NOT PREGNANT ANYMORE! But I love it!

The Dreaded Crib Project

I knew I should have taken before during and after pictures...but i was too frustrated and didn't want to waste any more time. My sweet Mother in Law Theresa bought a crib for my Sister in Law Melinda's babies. She is all done with it so she gave it to me. Score!!! This is similar to what the crib looked like originally (color is close...but the actual model of the crib is much cuter)
Orbelle Trading 1122N - Tina Three Level Portable Crib Bed in Natural
I liked the color of it, but I had some extra time on my hands (about 3 months) so I thought I would just stain it a little darker, like an oak color. So I went to home depot and asked the associate there and he told me what to buy. I thought it was such a good idea! I would just sand down the crib, which would take like 30 minutes...and then slap the stain on there, then slap the finish on! WRONG.
It took hours upon hours of sanding from both my Mom, Josh and I. Probably 5 nights at 2-3 hours a night we'd sand this thing. Then when the time finally could put the beautiful stain on, the stain would only take in spotty places!!!! That is some tough wood! Again, should have gotten a picture but I was soo mad that I couldn't bear it. I was too embarassed. (I'm not embarassed anymore cuz the crib looks great again)
but i cant find any wood stain disasters on google image search so you will just have to visualize...a multi colored crib...with super dark patches and super light patches. I swear on my life we sanded that thing GOOD. After a week of letting it sit I thought of something (which my mom suggested but I shot it down....but it was a good idea when I thought of it ;) let's paint it! So I went back to home depot, returned the clear polyurithane and bought a dark brown paint which had the finish and the primer all in one, called Sweet Molasses. (Safe around babies)
The Home Depot guy said only one coat is needed because of the primer.
Well, he lied.
I ended up having to paint two coats because of the streakiness...and was scared of the result...but it looks amazing in my humble opinion. Check THIS out.

If you cant tell, thats the dining room table to the left, oh and the TV room behind that...and behind me is our bed, and to the left of me is the kitchen!!! Cute little Studio place huh? Here is the outside:

And here is our new car we bought for Baby and I!

Its AWD so it will be safe to drive in the snow...and it's priddy.

BIG baby boy

When we went to the ultrasound yesterday (Josh, my Mom and I) I didn't know what to expect, but I didn't expect them to find a 9 lb 8 oz. baby in there. We have had 3 ultrasounds total due to the baby always measuring a lil ahead...but the body parts on the screen we WAAAAY huger than last time. huuuge head. huuuuge belly. huuuuge...um, package. He is in the correct head down posterior position, so we weren't able to get any cute face shots. I told the doc there (not my doc, the ultrasound doc) that my sister was told her baby was 10 lbs but he came out 8.12. She said there is a margin of error, about a pound or pound and a half...so the baby could only be 8.5 lbs. right now, but he could also be 10.5 lbs. Last night I had 2 friends that told me they would be surprised if my doc didnt call me today or as soon as they get the results and have me come in to be induced.
I was too impatient so I called the dr. today. They told me I could probably opt for a c-section if I wanted to. I don't want to. They said on my next appt. Thursday we can schedule an induction for sometime in week 39 (which is next week)...the week my doc goes out of town...on 09/09/09 is the first day she is gone!!!! im so mad!!!
My sister Jana's first baby Carmen was over 9 lbs and she did it natural, so I can too. My Aunt Dru delivered a baby over 9 lbs and both of these women are teeny. So dangit, I'm not going to give up and just have a c-section.
My sister typically has long deliveries...so I am going to push for the day before dr. goes out of town...09/08/09...which is my mom's birthday. Then hopefully I'm in labor forever and have the baby after midnight...making it a 09/09/09 baby!!!!!! It's genius, right?? Cuz if he is born on 09/08/09 that is still cool! Same birthday as Grandma!
